Not every medical concern requires a specialist, urgent care visit, or hospital setting. At Hometown Family Medicine, we are able to perform a variety of common in-office procedures as part of your primary care. Offering these services in the office can make care more convenient, reduce unnecessary referrals, and allow you to receive treatment from a healthcare team that already knows your medical history.

Depending on your individual needs, our providers may offer procedures such as:

• Minor wound care
• Suture and staple removal
• Treatment of minor skin concerns
• Wart treatment
• Simple abscess evaluation and treatment
• Ear irrigation for impacted earwax
• Injections and medication administration
• Basic specimen collection and testing

Availability may vary depending on the specific procedure and your medical condition.

Small cuts, scrapes, and other minor wounds can often be evaluated and treated in the office. Our team can assess the injury, clean and dress the area, provide wound-care instructions, and determine whether additional treatment may be needed. We can also help monitor healing and identify signs of infection or complications.

If you received stitches or staples after an injury or procedure elsewhere, they may need to be removed after the area has had sufficient time to heal.

Our providers can evaluate the site, remove sutures or staples when appropriate, and make sure the wound is healing as expected. We can also provide guidance on continued wound care and scar management.

Impacted earwax can cause discomfort, decreased hearing, pressure, ringing, or a feeling of fullness in the ear. When appropriate, we can evaluate the ear and perform in-office ear irrigation or other basic treatment to safely remove excess wax. Because ear symptoms can sometimes have other causes, an examination helps ensure the appropriate treatment is provided.

Many common skin concerns can be evaluated and treated during a primary care visit.

Depending on the condition, in-office care may be available for concerns such as:

• Warts
• Minor skin infections
• Small irritated skin areas
• Simple superficial lesions
• Other minor skin concerns

If a condition requires biopsy, advanced treatment, or specialist evaluation, we can help coordinate appropriate dermatology care.

Some medications and treatments are most appropriately administered in a clinical setting. Our office can provide certain injections and medication administration when ordered by one of our providers and medically appropriate for your condition. Your provider will discuss the purpose of the treatment, what to expect, and any follow-up recommendations.

Many common conditions can be evaluated more effectively with basic testing performed or collected during your visit.

Depending on the reason for your appointment, this may include:

• Urine testing
• Swab testing
• Rapid diagnostic testing
• Specimen collection
• Other basic point-of-care testing

When laboratory testing is needed beyond what is available in the office, we can arrange for appropriate testing and follow up with you regarding the results.

While many minor procedures can be safely handled in a primary care office, some conditions require imaging, surgical treatment, emergency care, or a specialist. Our providers will evaluate your concern and help determine the safest and most appropriate next step. If additional care is necessary, we can assist with referrals or recommendations so you know where to go next.

Being able to receive common procedures in the same office where you receive your regular healthcare can make the entire process easier.
