IV Therapy Options

Woman receiving IV therapy for hydration and wellness.

Hydration & Nutrient Support When You Need It

IV therapy delivers fluids and selected nutrients directly into the bloodstream, allowing for rapid hydration and efficient absorption. At Hometown Family Medicine, IV therapy may be used to support hydration, recovery, wellness, and certain nutritional needs when medically appropriate. Our approach is focused on safe, clinically guided treatment based on your individual health history, symptoms, and goals.

IV Therapy Options

Depending on your needs and provider recommendations, IV therapy may be used for:

  • Hydration support
  • Recovery after illness
  • Fatigue and low-energy concerns
  • Vitamin and nutrient supplementation
  • Travel-related dehydration
  • Support after strenuous activity
  • Wellness-focused hydration
  • Recovery after alcohol-related dehydration or hangover symptoms

Specific IV ingredients and treatment options may vary.

Hydration Support

Dehydration can happen for many reasons, including illness, travel, strenuous activity, heat exposure, or inadequate fluid intake.

Symptoms may include:

  • Fatigue
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Dry mouth
  • Weakness
  • Reduced energy
  • General feelings of being run down

IV fluids may provide faster hydration than drinking fluids alone in certain situations.

Vitamin & Nutrient Infusions

Some IV treatments may include vitamins, minerals, or other nutrients based on your individual needs. Possible ingredients may include selected B vitamins, vitamin C, magnesium, or other nutrients, depending on the treatment offered and your medical history. Not every patient needs vitamin supplementation, so our team will review your health and help determine whether an IV treatment is appropriate.

Recovery After Illness

After an illness, it can sometimes take time to feel fully recovered, especially if you have experienced poor appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, or reduced fluid intake. IV hydration may help support recovery when dehydration or low fluid intake is contributing to symptoms. Our providers can also evaluate whether your symptoms may require additional testing or treatment.

Travel & Jet Lag Support

Long flights, disrupted sleep schedules, dry airplane cabins, and changes in routine can leave travelers feeling dehydrated and fatigued. IV hydration may be an option for patients looking for additional hydration before or after travel. For patients preparing for international travel, we can also discuss travel-related health needs separately through our Travel Medicine services.

Hangover & Dehydration Support

Alcohol can contribute to dehydration and may leave you experiencing headache, nausea, fatigue, and reduced energy the following day. IV fluids may help address dehydration and support recovery from mild symptoms. IV therapy is not a treatment for alcohol poisoning or severe alcohol-related illness. Severe vomiting, confusion, loss of consciousness, breathing problems, or other serious symptoms require immediate emergency care.

Wellness & Energy Support

Some patients choose IV therapy as part of a broader wellness routine or when they are feeling especially fatigued or run down. Because fatigue can also be caused by medical conditions, sleep problems, anemia, thyroid concerns, infections, or other health issues, persistent or unexplained fatigue should be medically evaluated rather than treated with IV therapy alone. Our providers can help determine whether additional evaluation may be appropriate.

What to Expect

Before receiving IV therapy, our team will review relevant health information to help determine whether treatment is appropriate for you.

During the treatment:

  • An IV catheter is placed into a vein
  • Fluids are administered over a period of time
  • Selected nutrients or medications may be included depending on the treatment
  • You can relax while the infusion is completed
  • Our clinical team monitors you throughout the process

Treatment times can vary depending on the type and amount of fluid being administered.

Is IV Therapy Right for Everyone?

IV therapy may not be appropriate for every patient. Certain medical conditions, medications, allergies, kidney problems, heart conditions, or other health factors can affect whether IV treatment is recommended. That is why we believe IV therapy should be provided with appropriate medical oversight rather than treated as a one-size-fits-all wellness service.

More Than an IV Bar

At Hometown Family Medicine, IV therapy is offered within a medical practice where your overall health matters. If your symptoms suggest something more than simple dehydration or fatigue, our providers can evaluate the underlying concern and recommend appropriate care rather than simply administering an infusion.
